Our Plastic Surgeons:

Because we educate mostly breast surgery, liposuction and tummy tuck patients; we require our plastic surgeons to be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which qualifies the surgeon to perform both body and facial procedures. By choosing an American Board of Plastic Surgery certified plastic surgeon; patients are ensured the surgeon has graduated from an accredited medical school and completed at least five years of residency (usually three years of general surgery and two years of plastic surgery). An ABPS certified plastic surgeon must also practice for two years and pass written and oral examinations in plastic surgery.

There are over 5000 ABPS certified plastic surgeons, and of them only a small percentage are invited to join our plastic surgeon directory. I have personally checked the qualifications of our member surgeons. In fact, our plastic surgeons meet higher standards than those of any other referral service as we only list select plastic surgeons to be in our referral directory. Our plastic surgeons must also maintain that standard in order to remain in our surgeon directory.

About Cosmetic Surgeons:
Some refer to plastic surgeons as cosmetic surgeons; however, a plastic surgeon is what you really want. Most doctors calling themselves "cosmetic surgeons" are not true plastic surgeons and are not qualified or experienced in plastic surgery. To be sure you are seeing a "true" plastic surgeon for any body plastic surgery, such as lipo, tummy tucks and breast enhancement implant augmentation choose an American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) certified plastic surgeon.

Behind Plano, Texas Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Wilcox

Robert D. Wilcox, M.D. is the Director of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center of Texas. After graduating from Texas A&M University Magna Cum Laude, he attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, graduating in 1984 near the top of his class.

After medical school Dr. Wilcox completed eight years of resident training in three specialties. He trained in General Surgery at the University of Florida from 1984 through 1989, and then returned to Dallas for his Plastic Surgery training at Southwestern Medical School. Afterwards, he was invited to remain as a fellow in Hand and Microsurgery at Southwestern.

Dr. Wilcox entered private practice in Plano and North Dallas in 1992, though he remains active in the teaching of Plastic Surgery as Clinical Assistant Professor at Southwestern Medical School. He has published and presented numerous scientific articles in the United States and abroad. He was awarded the American Medical Association's Physician Recognition Award. Dr. Wilcox remains current with the latest techniques in plastic and cosmetic surgery by regularly attending medical seminars, workshops, and conferences.

Dr. Wilcox has the distinction of Board Certification in two specialties: Plastic Surgery and Hand & Microsurgery. This extra training provides important expertise in surgery of all parts of the body. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Dallas County Medical Society, Lipoplasty Society of North America, Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, Dallas Society of Plastic Surgeons, and numerous other medical organizations.

Dr. Wilcox is a respected member of the Plastic Surgery community and serves as President of the Dallas Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is also a member in good standing of the medical staffs of Columbia Medical Center of Plano, Presbyterian Hospital of Plano, Baylor Richardson Medical Center, Medical City of Dallas, and numerous other hospitals in North Dallas and the surrounding suburbs.

Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center of Texas

Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center of Texas is one of only a few state-licensed surgical facilities in Texas. In a recent interview, Dr. Wilcox was asked to explain why what this means to the person who is considering a plastic surgery procedure:
"Office-based surgery has gained noticed in the media recently for a number of reasons. Unfortunately, most people are unaware that any physician with a current medical license can perform surgical procedures in their office legally without any type of supervision or regulation. And, as you might guess, there is little or no supervision as to the quality and safety regulation of many of those facilities and practitioners.

"It is the cornerstone of our practice to never 'cut' corners; therefore, I built a state-of-the-art 7,500-square-foot facility in Plano that offers two surgical suites that are state-licensed. The facility has also passed the very stringent standards of the Federal Medicare Program. What this means to the patient is that our facility is licensed by the Texas Department of Health in a way similar to that of hospitals, with everything from air filtration parameters, to sterilization standards, and the use of registered nurses instead of medical assistants - creating the best possible environment for surgical procedures. I believe the quality and standards of facilities around the city of Dallas vary greatly, and it is important for a patient who is considering plastic surgery to feel as comfortable about their surgical environment as they would a state-of-the-art hospital, its surgery, and staff. I feel that patients should see the operating room that the surgery is to be performed in and should know the difference in one that is state-of-the-art and one that is not. State-licensing means successful certification by the Texas Department of Health.

"Because the facility was built specifically for plastic surgery, there are certain benefits that my patients enjoy. Our freestanding location is easy for patients to find and has plenty of available parking. Private entrances maximize confidentiality, particularly after surgery. Internal exam doorways adjacent to photography rooms also preserve our patients' privacy and modesty. We also offer a comfortable waiting room for our patients' families."
