Our Plastic Surgeons:

Because we educate mostly breast surgery, liposuction and tummy tuck patients; we require our plastic surgeons to be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which qualifies the surgeon to perform both body and facial procedures. By choosing an American Board of Plastic Surgery certified plastic surgeon; patients are ensured the surgeon has graduated from an accredited medical school and completed at least five years of residency (usually three years of general surgery and two years of plastic surgery). An ABPS certified plastic surgeon must also practice for two years and pass written and oral examinations in plastic surgery.

There are over 5000 ABPS certified plastic surgeons, and of them only a small percentage are invited to join our plastic surgeon directory. I have personally checked the qualifications of our member surgeons. In fact, our plastic surgeons meet higher standards than those of any other referral service as we only list select plastic surgeons to be in our referral directory. Our plastic surgeons must also maintain that standard in order to remain in our surgeon directory.

About Cosmetic Surgeons:
Some refer to plastic surgeons as cosmetic surgeons; however, a plastic surgeon is what you really want. Most doctors calling themselves "cosmetic surgeons" are not true plastic surgeons and are not qualified or experienced in plastic surgery. To be sure you are seeing a "true" plastic surgeon for any body plastic surgery, such as lipo, tummy tucks and breast enhancement implant augmentation choose an American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) certified plastic surgeon.

"Office staff is wonderful. Dr. Gray is attentive and very inclusive in his process. I was fully empowered and informed to make the decision which worked best for me. Also very focused on how to create the aesthetics I desired. Also very focused on minimizing the invasiveness of the surgery. Lastly the incision, his specialty, was almost invisible by the second week. Would unequivocably recommend him. ALthough he is quite busy, he does not schedule out more than two months so there was not much of a wait. He was the 4th surgeon I visited and I am so happy with the natural results, the softness of the saline, and the beauty of it all. I LOVE Dr. Gray."~Spring (Breast Augmentation Patient & Site Visitor from San Francisco, CA)

"I went to Dr. Gray wanting the best and that is what I got. My breasts are perfect and exactly what I wanted and the scar is practically invisible after only a month! His technique is first rate and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Getting a good outcome is important to him and he takes his time to make sure he gives his best every time. I would definately recommend to everyone to go to him. Even if you have to travel, it is worth it to have the best. Excellent surgeon! Takes pride in his work. Scarless technique. I am extremely pleased with my results."~Connie (Breast Augmentation Patient & Site Visitor from Petaluma, CA)

Meet San Francisco, California Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Gray

The single most important factor in the success of cosmetic surgery is the cosmetic surgeon you select. That is why you need to know about the training and experience of your aesthetic plastic surgeon. San Francisco plastic surgeon Dr. Gray has extensive professional expertise and is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery - the only board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify plastic surgeons. Dr. Gray is also board certified by the American Board of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the California Medical Association, the San Francisco Medical Society as well as a fellow in the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Gray's plastic surgery patients do not only come from the San Francisco Bay Area. As his reputation has grown, his clientele has included patients from many parts of the country. He has even had plastic surgery patients come to his San Francisco facility from areas outside of the United States.

Dr. Gray earned his Bachelor of Arts and masters degrees at the University of California at Berkeley; completing his undergraduate studies with honors. He attended the University of California at Los Angeles Medical School, receiving, upon graduation the prestigious and highly coveted AOA research award; one of only five medical students in the nation to receive this distinction. At Harvard University, where Dr. Gray fulfilled his residency in general surgery, he was chief resident in his final year. Following his residency at Harvard, Dr. Gray was privileged to be accepted to a Hand and Micro surgery fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Harry Buncke, acknowledged in the medical community as the "Father of Microsurgery". Dr. Gray then elected to complete his training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at St. Frances Hospital in San Francisco because the primary focus of their program is cosmetic surgery, Dr. Gray's chosen specialty.

It is the patient's particular needs and goals that determine the plastic surgery procedure to be selected. Therefore, Dr. Gray places great emphasis on the mutual understanding and clarification of those needs and goals. Because it is important to Dr. Gray that his patients are active participants in the process leading to plastic surgery, he takes as much time as is necessary to achieve that goal.

Some of the procedures offered by cosmetic and plastic surgeon Dr. Leonard Gray include breast augmentation, facelift, nose surgery, blepharoplasty, and abdominoplasty. Dr. Gray's offices are conveniently located for San Francisco, San Jose, and Bay Area patients.

Plastic Surgeon's Goal

Breast Augmentation is a very popular procedure in my practice. My goal with breast augmentation is to give the patient the look they desire with an absolute minimum of scarring. I consider my operation a success if the incision sight is hardly visible and the patient has a natural look that she is proud of in and out of clothes.

It is the patient's particular needs and goals which determine the procedure to be selected, therefore, Dr. Gray places great emphasis on the mutual understanding and clarification of those needs and goals. Because it is important to Dr. Gray that his patients are active participants in the process leading to surgery, he takes as much time as is necessary to achieve that purpose.

Plastic Surgeon's Technique

Although there are incisions under the breast, in the armpit, and at the edge of the areola, I prefer a very small incision at the edge of the nipple. When healed, this scar is barely detectable. In well over 1500 implant placements I have never lost anyone's nipple sensation. Patients often ask me how I can get the implant in through such a small incision. The answer is that the implant goes in deflated and rolled up so it can fit through the small incision.

Plastic Surgeon's Experience

Dr.

Dr. Gray's patients do not only come from the Bay Area. As his reputation has grown, his clientele has included patients from many parts of the country. He has even had patients come to him from areas outside of he United States.

Your Breast Augmentation Options

The implant can be placed under the pectoralis muscle or over the muscle and under the breast gland only. There are advantages and disadventages to both. Generally, I will place the implants under the muscle, however in some situations and for some patients I will place the implant sub-glandularly. Saline implants are used for primary augmentations. Silicone gel implants can only be used for certain specific indications as outlined in the silicone gel FDA studies. Breast reconstruction following mastectomy and secondary breast augmentation procedures where saline implants are not an appropriate choice are some of the indications where silicone gel implants can be used.

There are different shapes and sizes of saline breast implants. In general, they come as a smooth round implant, a textured round implant, or as a textured anatomic or tear dropped shaped implant. The most popular implant chosen is the smooth round implant. I tend to use the textured anatomic implant in women who are at least a B cup and are ptotic (droopy). I always have my patients pick the size and type of implant they want. In the office I have them try the implants on where they can pinpoint and approve of the look they are trying to achieve.

I always discuss with the patients all the risks and the details of the recovery during the office consultation. In addition, there are multiple follow up visits after surgery to continually evaluate and help the patient during the recovery process.
