CHANGE IN NIPPLE SENSATION: I lost almost all of the sensation in my right breast. The plastic surgeon said that the feeling would come back within a year but it never did. However, my right breast gets erect for no reason at all.

DOCTOR COMMENTS: My surgeon wasn't thorough at all. He didn't show me before and after pictures at my consultation. I should have done all of my research before having the procedure done but he came highly recommended by a friend of my sister. I wanted to go bigger but he said that I would not look propotioned. The incisions were supposed to be areolar incisions and the scars are about 1/2-1 inch lower than the lowest part of my areola so the scars are very visible. I am now self conscious about the scars. My left breast looks bigger than my right breast and the nipples are very lopsided. My lopsided nipples have also made me more self conscious. I had shooting pains in my left breast for the first year and a half. I made my plastic surgeon aware of my concerns but he said everything was normal but I haven't felt normal since before the surgery. My breasts look great in a push-up bra but thats about the only time. I am considering having them fixed but now I just have to find the mon!

COMPLICATIONS: Yes.  This is the reason that I am taking this survery.  I went back to my plastic surgeon 13 months after post-op due to the appearance of my scars.  They were not the "flat white-line" like many of my other friends who had the surgery.  Mine were raised, red, and thick.  He said that he recommended a revision surgery.  I was not aware of what this entailed until I was laying on the surgery table wide-awake getting cut into again.  It was very nerve recking for me.  Three weeks later, I noticed a awful smell coming from the revision sites.  I went in and I was starting to open up and had many spitting sutures.  He decided to do another revision 3 1/2 weeks after the first revision.  I had it done yet again, four days later, I went in due to leaking revision sites.  The nurse freaked out when she took off my bandages to see that I was completely opened-she said that it looked as though someone had split me with a knife at the incision site.  The surgeon left me open an!
d wanted me to heal naturally.  So, I walked around with two open cuts under my breasts for about a month before they started to close on their own.  I did allergy testing in the meantime and tested all of the materials used in the surgery. I had not one allergy.  I went back to my surgeon three months later.  He said that I had to do another revision because healing naturally would not leave me with enough support in the long run.  So, five months after the first revision..I had yet another revision (each side one at a time).  I am still in bandages.  I have been bandaged on the left side for 6 1/2 weeks and 4 1/2 on the right.  We attempted to remove the bandages on the left side, but after five days, he bandaged me back up due to slight widening.  September 2007 will be my two year mark (from my initial surgery) and I am still not 100% healed.  It has altered everything that I do from working out, to going into the pool, to just bathing.  I am always nervous about a spit!
ting suture, my scar widening, it has been very consuming.   I would h
ighly recommend serious consideration prior to anyone getting any elective surgery done.  I had no idea that my body would respond as it has to surgery.  People with keliod or hypertrophic scarring should know upfront to not expect a perfect looking incision-it is painful when the scar thickens and bothersome.  Now that I know I have keloid/hypertrophic scarring, I will think twice before I ever do another surgery.

COMMENT: I did this surgery for my boyfriend.  I'm a petite - 5'1" and about 100 lbs.  I always wanted breasts a little bigger (big C cup), but I adore my boyfriend, and knew this would drive him wild, which it has. We discussed it, and together found a qualified plastic surgeon.  I couldn't wait for the day of surgery to arrive.  I had 780cc's on one side, and 800 cc's on the other to 'even them out.'  Since my boobs are so big (in relation to my body), I get a lot of looks - especially at the beach. DOCTOR: Dr. Harold Bafitis placed these recent saline implants. No I would not recommend him! Unless you are into huge breasts then he may be your man. My original surgeon in 1979 who placed my silcone implants was great! He placed silicone and he put in the size that was in proportion with my body and they looked fantastic! His name is Dr. Elmquist!

COMPLICATIONS: Yes, when the Dr. removed the silicone implants and scar tissue, he realized they were both massively ruptured. I had drains for about a week and was in great pain! After surgery, I was left in a room where no one could hear my cries for help to get up to go to the bathroom. Horrible experience altogether! I had told the Dr. that I wanted only a smidge bit bigger than the saline ones that he was removing and he told me to go and get some dirty magazines and pick out what I wanted to look like and when I showed him the picture -right before surgery he said that he felt that the picture of what I wanted to look like, that I wouldn't be happy with that size and that I would be sorry that I didn't go bigger! Very unhappy with these huge tits that everyone stares at. They are totally obvious. I hate wearing a bathing suit now because of them. I went from a natural looking C to an overflowing D! I hate them and I am going at the end of July to have them redone.

SHAPE COMMENTS: My surgeon chose this shape because I had subcutaneous mastectomies (removal of all the breast tissue through the implant incision under the breast) and he felt the shape would be better.  My implants dropped and were very odd looking.  One of them turned around inside my body so that the point of the teardrop was in my upper chest and caused a lot of pain.  I've found out that apparently this is common with anatomicals in women with little or no breast tissue of their own to hold them in place.  I recently had to have them removed because it became so painful and had them replaced with rounds.  I'm 3 weeks post-op now.  I now have 575 cc implants filled to 700cc.  I am very happy with these results.

WORST PART OF SURGERY: The worst part of this surgery for me was the first month afterwards. I found the pain to be just terrible and also found that I am allergic to most every pain killer the plastic surgeon could possible prescribe. I would venture to say that the worst part of it all was the feeling of pressure in my breast. I could not lie on my stomach or side for about 2 months afterwards. The implants just felt foreign in my body.

Has anyone made any negative remarks to you about your surgery?: I have only received one negative comment regarding my surgery. I ended up with rather large scars (which are healing) and I did receive a comment regarding them.

COMMENT: I went through considerable pain with my surgery however I feel that this is the best thing that I ever did for myself. I feel self confident for once in my life and I can now wear any outfit that I want to.

COMMENT: I had some complications. I believe that my plastic surgeon may have used implants that were too big for my frame because my breasts were too high and the nipple was too far down. They were not at all what I had expected. My plastic surgeon kept telling me that they would drop, but they never did. Six months later, he agreed that there was a problem and performed a second surgery at no charge. This time the pain was minimal and the results were great. He used a slightly smaller implant, and made the pocket deeper.

MASSAGE COMMENTS: Well, to be honest my boyfriend does most of the massaging.  I was told to start massaging two weeks after surgery.  It was not a true massage, just enough to move the implant around.  I would say in about a month to a month and a half, when the implant dropped considerably, I was then directed to massage at least twice a day.  After about six months, Dr. Kress told me to massage at least a couple times a week, but the more I kept up on the massaging the softer
the breast would be and stay.  At a year later, I am to massage at least twice a week and now the important thing is to watch how much aerobic activity is applied to the breast implants.
